you're running, no longer walking
you're getting faster as the years passes by
if only, if only i can stop you
and look back at...
the things i've done,
the things i've stop doing,
the things i could have done.
time really flies. as much as i don't want 2008 to pass me by, it has already done so.
Blessed new year, everyone =)

a little too much!
i've always thought a kindergarten is a place where kids play and have lots of fun but that's just what i thought. As much as i could remember, attending Rainbow (a kindergarten near my house) was more of playing and interacting with other kids. I can't remember much about studying really hard. The little ones in my school can sing Chinese songs (but i don't know whether they really understand what are they singing about), recite nursery rhymes really well in front of all the teachers and friends, knows and speaks mandarin way better than me.haha.
It was my third day working there, i think....i was on duty so i had to jaga pintu for a while as the senior teachers had a meeting. So i stood near the gate and whenever a car stopped in front of the school, i had to open the car door, assist and escort the kids. Some of the kids will greet me saying "Good morning, teacher nadia!", while the rest will still be in Wonderland.haha. And then there was this little 5 year old girl who came down from the car and said "chow an, lao tze ". I immediately froze. i was trying to figure out whether she was speaking to me in Cantonese or Mandarin and what that means. In the midst of trying to figure it out, i just smiled at her and turned around to close the car door. Just before i closed the door her grandmother said "hallo", so i smiled back. As the car drove away, i said to myself "oh, chow an lao tze means good morning teacher!" silly me! haha...a 5 year old speaking mandarin..not bad eh? but sadly their parents expects much more from them and because of this the teachers are pressured to ensure that the kids are performing academically. Can you imagine these kids have their recess in the class itself? No such thing as socializing with kids from other classes. They have to quickly eat and then back to studying =( ...not only that, the 6 year olds have to go through some grading test (i don't know what do they called it) before entering primary school. This test is done to stream them according to their smartness (if there is such word.haha)
I remember when i was attending kindergarten, i had the privilege to play outside with the other kids. You could play with the slide, swing or the little rabbits in the cage...what's wrong with parents nowadays? i mean it's good to equip the little ones with the basics before entering primary school but expecting them to perform at such a tender age is a little too much!
